Provincial Circular Nov. 2014

 Circular nov2014

Dear Fathers and Brothers,

The annual retreat for the year 2014 was so great. I am so happy that we had a great time together from October 20th to 24th mainly reflecting on our life and praying with the Lord. The preacher Rev. Fr. Vincent Kurisumootil OFM mainly focused on the Prophetic aspect of priesthood. We study a lot and reflect on the priestly responsibilities; to be representative of the people of God before the Heavenly Father, but often we ignore the Prophetic duty that we have received. A prophet is a representative of God who stands before the People of God. He is anointed and led by the Holy Spirit. He lives by the word of God and shares it with the people of God. He becomes a man of prayer by reading and listening the word. The preacher concluded the retreat reflecting on our religious vows and community life. He expressed the desire to see communities with the same spirit of early Christian communities which was a community of faith, worship, love and witness.

There are times we don’t commit ourselves to Christ and fail to realize our responsibilities as dedicated religious priests. We often forget that all have their own limitations and the need to accept the other and the need for tolerance. I think the quest for God should be the core of our religious life. Often the quest for God does not seem to be taken seriously and we are unable to cooperate with God and our neighbor. As religious missionaries we should never give up our hope and should grow in the providence of God that we are His beloved ones.

It is very important to think how it is possible to become prophets in our times. I think by a faith-based search for deeper truths it becomes possible. We have the responsibility to help the people to reflect on life issues under the light of the principles derived from values of life. We are the ones called to make difference in the society and dear fathers and brothers let us hear the cry for the spiritual vision and commitment to love everyone in spirit and truth. Let us be proud as religious that we have two great personalities who really had that vision and commitment in their lives to be prophets to the nations. November 23, 2014 is a historic day and moment for the Church in India as St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and St. Euphrasia Eluvathinkal will be added in to the group of Saints. Let us celebrate the occasion seeking the blessings of these saintly souls to deepen and enliven our spiritual roots.

As the Catholic Church commemorates the Solemnity of All Saints and All Souls Day in this month of November let us pray that the Saints and the faithful departed intercede for us before God. We should always aspire to have part in their joy and be filled with the Spirit. The commemoration of the faithful departed gives us an opportunity to look at the mystery of death and the new life that Christ has won and promised for all of us who believe. Let’s in a special way remember and pray for the departed souls of all the members of our entire La Salette family, our family members, relatives and friends. May the faithful departed rest in peace!

Yours in our Blessed Mother

Fr. Roy Parayil M.S
